A-Level Physics Practical Endorsement

Designed for students studying for their A Level Physics with AQA, Edexcel, Eduqas, or OCR.

Course Information

The A Level Physics practical endorsement courses at Frobel Education are mapped against the Specification Criteria and the Common Practical Assessment criteria (CPAC).

A minimum number of practical activities need to be carried out by each student to show competence in the practical techniques listed in the syllabus.

The result of the Practical Endorsement is reported separately on the A level certificate, in addition to the overall grade for theory. The Practical endorsement will be assessed by teachers and will be based on direct observation of students ‘competency in a range of skills that are not assessable in written exams.

In A Level Physics students are required to perform a range of experiments that are listed in our course information.

The course covers the following topics

Required Practical 1 – Standing waves on a wire under tension.
Required Practical 2 – Measuring the separation of Young’s slits.
Required Practical 3 – Measuring the wavelength of light with a diffraction grating.
Required Practical 4 – Measuring by freefall.
Required Practical 5 – Young’s modulus of a metal wire.
Required Practical 6 – Measuring the resistivity of a metal wire.
Required Practical 7 – Measuring the EMF and internal resistance of a power supply.
Required Practical 8 – Oscillations of a mass on a spring.
Required Practical 9 – Investigating the oscillations of a simple pendulum.
Required Practical 10 – Boyle’s law.
Required Practical 11 – Charles’ law.
Required Practical 12 – Slow discharge and charging of a capacitor.
Required Practical 13 – Force on a current-carrying wire.
Required Practical 14 – Magnetic flux.
Required Practical 15 – The iodometric determination of copper.

Prerequisites

Students must be studying for their A Level Physics with AQA, Edexcel, Eduqas, or OCR via distance learning or at another Centre.
This course is designed to be an intensive practical course for students who wish to fast track their A Level practical assessment. This course will give attendees a limited number of opportunities to attempt each of the assessed practicals.
For students with limited or no practical laboratory experience, Frobel recommends they attend our short course entitled ‘Introduction to Laboratory Skills’. This course will equip students with the skills and knowledge they need to achieve the A Level practical assessment to a good standard.
